Digital dance education

Qualification format for dance educators in two seminars

With the first phase of this B2B qualification format, the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland and the German Professional Association for Dance Education supported dance teachers of all levels and styles to adapt to the "new" digital world in order to safely share knowledge about our common passion, dance. This included not only the expertise to use the latest technologies efficiently, but also the knowledge of the new legal frameworks that arise as a result.

The qualification format was divided into two parts, an online and a face-to-face seminar, which belong together and build on each other, but could also be booked separately.

Live Seminar in presence

1. Basics of creating tutorials, videos, streaming and recording (3 hours).

Continuation of the online seminar with practical knowledge and skills: Editing, sound, dubbing, post production; insertion of videos, images, slides as well as an efficient use of technological equipment.

2. Supervised creation of tutorials/video productions (3 hours).

In order to put all the newly acquired knowledge into practice, the participants* will create a tutorial or a video themselves in the accompanying final step.

Online-Seminar

1. Technical and visual realization of online courses (3 hours).

A step-by-step guide leads through the different setup options of the common platforms and supports the participants in the selection of hardware and software according to their individual teaching goals. Guidelines on video quality, lighting, camera settings, and technical arrangements are also provided.

2. Legal seminar / insurances (3 hours)

This seminar covers copyrights and personal rights, data protection and related rights, GEMA as well as insurance issues in relation to the creation and distribution of online tutorials. The questions of the participants will be collected in advance and then answered by the lawyer in a question and answer session.

The qualification format is supported by the funding program DIS-TANZEN within the framework of NEUSTART KULTUR. This enables the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland and the Deutscher Berufsverband für Tanzpädagogik to offer the online seminar and the face-to-face seminar at a reduced nominal fee of 30 euros (plus service fee) per seminar. Interested participants can register here.

Hans-Jürgen Werner is the legal advisor of the German Professional Association for Dance Education as well as the legal advisor of the Presidium of the German Association of Sound Artists. For more than 25 years he has dedicated himself to artistic dance and, in addition to his special field - VAT exemption for the services of cultural education providers (music and dance) - he deals with the main problem areas of artistic dance education: teaching of the performing arts, the Artists' Social Security Act (KSVG), the tax liability of users - for example, also owners of artistic dance schools as clients of self-employed dance agents, the social security status of employed teachers (bogus self-employment). A special focus since 2008 has been the DBfT's overall contractual partnership with GEMA. Hans-Jürgen Werner was the initiator of successful petitions, including the amendment of § 4 No. 21 UStG and the legal obligation of the German pension insurance to fulfil the duty of the users to pay contributions after the artists' social insurance deadline, which led to a reduction in the contribution rate.
