    What programs combine in the dance-support programme?

    The aid program for the German dance scene is coordinated with ongoing and new federal and state funding initiatives in such a way that the programs complement each other but avoid overcompensation.


    The concept provides for the implementation of three pillars: TANZPAKT RECONNECT to strengthen and secure the future of dance structures. DIS-TANZEN as a support program for solo dance professionals and as an impulse support for dance schools and dance pedagogy in cultural institutions. STEPPING OUT to promote the development, production and distribution of dance in new spaces. Applicants cannot apply for funding for an identical project in more than one of the programs.

    With the support program DIS-TANZEN, the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland e.V. supports the restart of artistic and dance educational activities in the Corona crisis. A special focus is placed on the development and testing of new forms of artistic and dance-pedagogical or dance-mediating work. The aim of DIS-TANZEN is to strengthen the individual actors of dance in the future and to create innovative examples as well as models for the entire dance scene.

    DIS-TANZ-SOLO is aimed at solo dance professionals: Choreographers, dancers, dramaturges, producers, curators, technicians, dance mediators, dance teachers and other solo self-employed people who are professionally involved in artistic and mediating processes.
    DIS-TANZ-IMPULS is a support program for dance schools and cultural institutions offering dance education. Natural and legal persons are eligible to apply.


    *The applicant must be a resident of Germany.

    Yes, this is possible. You can either apply with a follow-up project or submit a new project. Please note that the jury will have a strong focus on the projects of applicants who have not yet been funded.

    A follow-up project is only possible if your first project has already been successfully completed. The project description must address the results of the first project and explain why a follow-up project makes sense and is sustainable. The follow-up project must also name a new goal(s) to be achieved.

    The examination of the applications takes place in the office of the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.

    I have applied for instant support (Soforthilfe) and have already been supported. Can I still apply?

    Yes, it is possible to apply for DIS-TANZEN if you have already taken advantage of instant support (Soforthilfe), or other funding programs. However, the same costs may not be accounted for multiple times in different grants. This must be observed.

     

  • Can I apply for DIS-TANZEN, together with colleagues and for NPN - STEPPING OUT at the same time?

    Can I apply for DIS-TANZEN, together with colleagues and for NPN - STEPPING OUT at the same time?

    In principle, it is possible to apply to several programs of the Dance Assistance Program. However, one and the same project (project or measure) cannot be funded by different funding programs. I.e. an application for a separate project must be submitted in each funding program.

     

  • May I submit documents in a language other than German?

    For DIS-TANZ-SOLO an application form is available in German as well as in English.
    Texts for DIS-TANZ-IMPULS can also be submitted in English.

     

  • Is it allowed to submit a (rejected) application repeatedly?

    Is it allowed to submit a (rejected) application repeatedly?

    In principle, rejected applications from previous application rounds can be resubmitted.
    However, we recommend that the application be revised.
    Unfortunately, we cannot provide any information on questions of content. 

     

  • Is there a legal right to a grant?

    There is no legal entitlement to funding from Dachverband Tanz Deutschland.

    An independent jury decides on the applications.

  • What criteria are used to decide on applications?

    What criteria are used to decide on applications?

    Criteria are the previous course of professional work and the description of the content of your project.
    In addition, the applications are checked for their feasibility in terms of time and scope.

    It is expected that the results for the fifth round of applications will be announced in the beginning of December 2022.

    Yes, also applicants who do not receive funding will be informed of this.

    The funding amounts are paid out in such a way that after the start of the project, the planned funding can always be called up on a pro rata basis for the previous four weeks. Further information is available in the case of funding.

    Four application rounds have already been completed. The fifth application round is provisionally the last.

    The following funding volumes were distributed in the respective funding rounds:

    DIS-TANZ-SOLO 1: 1,45 Mio Euro
    DIS-TANZ-SOLO 2: 1,49 Mio Euro
    DIS-TANZ-SOLO 3: 4,16 Mio Euro
    DIS-TANZ-SOLO 4: 4,39 Mio Euro

    The earliest possible start date for projects in the fourth funding round is 01.01.2023. Funding is excluded if the project has already started before the jury meeting or if expenditures have been made or contracts concluded for it beforehand.

    As of 22 August 2022, three different application forms will be available:

    The form for solo self-employed dance professionals is available in German and in English. Please switch the website to the respective language.

    A form for graduates is available on the dance website.

    The funding period for the fifth application round ends on 30.06.2023 at the latest.

    Yes, the project must run for at least two months.

    Yes, the duration of the project applied for cannot exceed six months.

    You will find the proofs and documents that must be submitted for the application in the selection of the application that is right for you. They are also listed in the application form.

  • Do I need to submit a financing plan for my project?

    Do I need to submit a financing plan for my project?

    No, for the DIS-TANZ-SOLO programme the information (duration and monthly amount) in the application form is sufficient.

     

  • Is the submission of a video obligatory?

    Is the submission of a video obligatory?

    No, you have the option of supplementing your project description with a video in which you briefly introduce yourself and your proposed project.

     

  • What is the maximum length of the video? How does the applicant submit the video?

    What is the maximum length of the video? How does the applicant submit the video?

    The video must not exceed a maximum length of 3 minutes. You can post your video on the YouTube or Vimeo platforms. The video must be made private and protected with a password. Please note the password in the online form when submitting your application. When using Vimeo, please note the setting "Rating for all audiences", so that access from outside can be guaranteed at any time even without a Vimeo account.

     

  • Does the video replace the project description?

    The video does not replace the project description, but simply provides another form of presentation of the project content if you feel unsure about the written project description.

     

  • What is meant by "significant involvement in artistic dance projects"?

    What is meant by "significant involvement in artistic dance projects"?

    The aim of DIS-TANZEN is the restart of artistic activity in the professional field. Significant participation here means the involvement in dance projects, dance productions or dance educational projects in the professional field, i.e. the exercise of an activity relevant to the realisation of the project. This can be artistic as well as mediating, organisational and technical activities. The type of involvement must be evident from the evidence submitted in the application.

    As evidence of your significant involvement in two to four artistic dance projects, dance productions or dance education projects, you can use, for example, scans of programmes, press releases, newspaper articles or websites.

    Journalists should provide evidence of their professional activity in the form of at least 4 newspaper or magazine articles (announcements, reviews, professional articles). Please mark your name and the date of the event / project / publication in the uploaded document. Written confirmations from production venues, artistic directors and dance education institutions or dance schools are also possible as proof.

     

  • I have been both self-employed and in permanent employment for the past two years. Can I still apply for funding?

    I have been both self-employed and in permanent employment for the past two years. Can I still apply for funding?

    In principle, self-employment of at least two years is required for DIS-TANZ-SOLO funding. However, persons with hybrid employment can also apply. Currently, and during the funding period, the funded persons may not receive more than 50% of their income from an employment relationship. Please provide proof of this in the form of your tax assessment notice when submitting your application. Your application will be reviewed by the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland. The decision on funding is the responsibility of the jury.

     

  • Can I also apply for funding as a self-employed dance teacher?

    Can I also apply for funding as a self-employed dance teacher?

    Yes, this is possible if you can also demonstrate your involvement in artistic dance projects. However, if you would like to apply as a representative of a dance school, please refer to the DIS-TANZ-IMPULS part of the programme. Unfortunately, no further application round is planned for IMPULS.

     

  • Can I apply for funding as a dance graduate?

    Can I apply for funding as a dance graduate?

    Graduates with a state-recognized degree in dance are eligible to apply. As a rule, the degree must not have been awarded more than three years ago (January 2019) and must have been completed at a German university or school. Applicants must be resident in Germany. Here you can find more information.

    Only graduates who want to carry out a project as a solo independent dance maker can apply. It is not possible to participate in an ensemble as a graduate through the DIS-TANZ-SOLO program.

    In this case, please inform yourself about the new funding program DIS-TANZ-START.

  • What proof do I provide as a graduate instead of proof of self-employment?

    You provide proof of your state-recognised degree in the field of dance in the form of your degree certificate. As a rule, you must have graduated within the last three years (from 2019) in Germany. To do so, upload a scan of your degree certificate as a PDF. The date of graduation must be clearly visible on your diploma.

    If your formal degree is imminent, please upload a recent Transcript of Records showing that your degree is imminent (subject semester/year of training).The date of issue must be clearly visible on your scan. Please note that you must have completed your studies/training before your funding period begins. The degree certificate must be submitted without request as soon as it is available.

     

     

  • What amount of funding can be applied for?

    A minimum of €3,000 and a maximum of €12,500 for a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 6 months.

     

  • How is the funding amount calculated?

    How is the funding amount calculated?

    The monthly workload is calculated independently in the application: The basis for this is the lower fee limit of €2,490 per month recommended by the Federal Association for the Performing Arts. Work on the project is calculated by time spent as follows:

    little (one day per week, 500€; 6 months)
    partly (2 days per week, 1.000€, at least 3 months)
    more than half of your working time (3 days per week, 1.500€, minimum 2 months)
    full time (5 days per week, 2.500€, 5 months at the most)

    If a monthly grant of 500€ is requested, the grant period must be 6 months, as the minimum grant amount is 3,000€ (500€ monthly grant x 6 months = 3,00€). 

    If a monthly grant of 1,000€ is requested, the grant period can vary between three and six months. (1,000€ monthly grant x 3 months = 3,000€ or 1,000€ monthly grant x 6 months = 6,000€). 

    If a monthly grant of 1,500€ is requested, the grant period can vary between two and six months (1,500€ monthly grant x 2 months = 3,000€ (minimum grant amount) or 1,500€ monthly grant x 6 months = 9,000€).

    If a grant of 2,500€ is requested, the grant period can vary between two and five months. (2.500€ monthly grant x 2 months = 5.000€ or 2.500€ monthly grant x 5 months = 12.500€)

  • Can I use the grant for research for a future project/production?

    Yes, funding can also be used for research for a project/production.

     

  • Can I use the money to hire someone to do the project?

    Can I use the money to hire someone to do the project?

    No, the grant is for your own work on your project.

     

  • Can I use the grant to hire others on a fee basis to implement certain activities as part of my project?

    Can I use the grant to hire others on a fee basis to implement certain activities as part of my project?

    The grant is to be used as income for your work on the project. If you involve other people, you can only honor them from your own funds.

     

  • Can I carry out a project with other self-employed dance professionals?

    Can I carry out a project with other self-employed dance professionals?

    Yes, you can mention additional persons in your project. In the case of partner applications, however, the question is whether other self-employed persons should also be supported in order to be able to carry out the project. For this purpose, please enter the names of the other applicants in the field provided. It must be clear from the project description which part of the project you are responsible for.

    You submit a so-called proof of use (”Verwendungsnachweis”) at the end of the project. You can find more information in the FAQ for funding recipients and in the downloads for funding recipients.

     

  • Can I present my project and my results?

    Yes, we would like to see documentation of the project that is appropriate to the art form. We want to use the many projects as an opportunity for good approaches to be shared, for exciting projects to inspire others, for results to become the starting point for new ideas. To this end, the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland has set up a blog on which those receiving funding as well as other dance practitioners can share their work processes and results. You can find it at www.exisdance.de.

     

  • Can I also be funded by another funding programme during the project?

    Can I also be funded by another funding programme during the project?

    Yes, if there are two different project contents and they are compatible in terms of time.

    Exception: You apply for and receive funding from DIS-TANZ-SOLO for 2,500€ monthly instalment and thus work full-time. A simultaneous implementation is therefore excluded. We ask you to align funding periods if necessary or to select only one funding project.

    No, if you have submitted the same substantive project application to different funding programmes and both are selected for funding. Please choose one here.

  • Can DIS-TANZ-SOLO be combined with a scholarship?

    Can DIS-TANZ-SOLO be combined with a scholarship?

    Yes, since DIS-TANZ-SOLO is a project funding, it can be combined with a scholarship.

    Process descriptions can already be submitted during the project in the sense of a project diary. The factual report must be submitted no later than one month after completion of the project.

    The grant is intended as full funding for your specific project, therefore it cannot be combined with other grant programs.
